get lost you're really not in any trouble until. you reach Greenwich Village where you can ask the first passerby and get a little more than just directions. The whole city

is cruisey, but the Village is truly the gay heart of Manhattan.

Come along now on a journey through the night life of the big apple. Where people dance till dawn and sometimes later. A whole spectrum of offerings, where gay discos are a very real part of the night life. Where the disco/bar experience is as varied as New York itself. A city where the gays set the trends for the rest of us to follow. Discos that offer the highest level of energy dancing, the most innovative music and the most creative light shows. Let's look now at some of the hottest spots the city has to offer...

Anvail 500 W. 14th at 11th Ave. Private. After Hours. Cover $4-8 (varies with type of membership). Dancing. Very popular. Wild backroom with movies. Rough neighborhood in Warehouse district.

It may be difficult for Detroiters to imagine people dancing and drinking till dawn or 8 or 9 in the morning. But move, shout, shake, rock and whistle they do at the Anvail. Liquor is served all morning and there's a drag show each morning at 5 a.m.

The decor is plain and no one dresses up here. The bar draws a very mixed clientele of gays. and everyone is there to party and have a good time. Pretty much anything goes here, providing spectators and participants with an abundant source of material for viewing and doing. The crowd tends to get quite stoned (you would too if you drank till dawn) and has a good time. A bit sleazy.

Crisco's 408 W. 15th. Private. After hours.

Cover $4-8. Rough neighborhood.

you

To get inside, knock at an unmarked

door. Upon entry, everyone gets frisked as part of the mandatory weapons search and patrons are asked to check all knives and guns. But once inside, the disco is not nearly as ominous.

On the dance floor, a huge can of Crisco doubles as decoration and d.j. booth. There's a large bar on the main level and two upstairs, with a newly built V.I.P. room for socializing. The music and lighting are exceptional. All gay mixed crowd similar to Anvail. You'll see suits, shorts, leather, jeans and even Fiorucci.

Crisco Disco Always a good time here.

Grapevine 161 W. 47th St. Cabaret bar. Drags. Transvestites. Rough. Shows each nite at midnight.

The

than I could chew! The whole bar was guys in drag, hustling. And these boys mean business! They take their profession seriously.

RAPEVINE

"An ode to the luxury and unparalleled beauty of the American transvestite"

that's their slogan!

I was told this was the place to go in New York to see a drag show. God, did I ever bite off more

Each night, Grapevine hosts a show spotlighting an impersonators talent. The city is not big on drag, so this is one of the few places to see a decent. show. Don't go here alone.
